Data Collection
Vegan Outreach does not share or sell your personal information. This applies across all of our activities described in this policy, including donations, email sign-ups, and advocacy actions.
Vegan Outreach collects information from website visitors at several different points on this website. We use Google Analytics, which collects technical information such as browser type, device type, operating system, language settings, approximate location, and which pages you visit and how you interact with them. Google Analytics does not store your full IP address, and information volunteered by visitors, such as survey responses, email addresses, and other personal information. Our websites and the databases behind our sign-up forms are hosted on servers operated by Opalstack, our web hosting provider.
Visitors under the age of 13 (United States), 18 (India), or 16 (European Union and elsewhere), please ask your parent or guardian for consent before submitting personal information to this site. If we have reason to believe a visitor is underage and we have collected their personal information without proper consent, we will delete that information in a reasonable period of time.
Financial Transactions
To process a charitable contribution or product purchase, it is necessary for Vegan Outreach to gather the donor’s name, email address, mailing address, phone number, and credit card information. This data is used to verify identity and execute the financial transaction. Additionally, phone numbers and email addresses may be used to contact visitors regarding the transaction.
Vegan Outreach may use service providers such as merchant banks and e-commerce companies for the express purpose of conducting financial transactions. It is important to note that credit card numbers are used only at the time of the transaction and are not stored after the transaction unless a transaction is selected that occurs regularly. For recurring transactions, the credit card information is stored in an encrypted format by our donation processing company (not by Vegan Outreach).
Your Data, Opt-Out, and Right to be Forgotten
Supporters and donors can email [email protected] to obtain details about the information we store about them, to opt out of our lists, or to request changes to personal data collected by Vegan Outreach.
Supporters and donors have the “Right to be Forgotten” and can email [email protected] to request that we remove their personal contact information from our records.
Donors should please note that we are obligated to store monetary transaction records per our document retention policy, in keeping with best practices for 501(c)(3) organizations.
Opt-in Emails
If a site visitor chooses to subscribe to any of our emails through the sign-up forms on our site or when making a donation, Vegan Outreach requests contact information, such as name and email address.
This information is stored securely with one of our email service providers (acting as our agents), for the sole use of Vegan Outreach. We currently use Mailchimp for our program and educational email series, and EveryAction for donor communications, e-newsletters, and fundraising appeals (including region-specific lists, such as for our India-based supporters). Which provider handles a given list may change over time as our internal systems evolve.
If someone chooses to subscribe to any of our email or text series through the sign-up forms on our site or in person, which are collected by one of Vegan Outreach’s staffers or volunteers, Vegan Outreach requests contact information such as name, email address, and phone number.
This information, along with donor records, is stored securely in EveryAction, our donor and volunteer management system (also acting as our agent), for the sole use of Vegan Outreach. Volunteers who order or distribute our AdoptACollege booklets are stored in a separate database hosted on Opalstack and accessed through adoptacollege.org. Because many volunteers are also donors or e-newsletter subscribers, the same person’s information may exist in both systems. Only designated Vegan Outreach staffers have access to this data.
We use the data we collect to send our email and text series, as well as electronic surveys, to measure and analyze the impact of Vegan Outreach’s work.
When you sign up for one of our programs (such as our “10 Weeks to Vegan” email series), we use your email address to send you the program content itself, as well as related communications, which may include:
- Check-ins or surveys during the program to see how it’s going
- A follow-up survey after the program ends, to learn what worked and what didn’t
- Periodic re-engagement emails, which may occur months or years after you complete a program, to ask about your experience, gather updated information for our research, or invite you to participate again
We send these communications because understanding people’s long-term experiences helps us improve our programs and better support the broader movement to reduce animal product consumption. You can opt out of any of these communications at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any email, or by contacting us directly at [email protected].
